Common questions
I’m not receiving the verification code
Verification codes come from Firebase via SMS to the phone number you typed. A few things to try:
- Double-check the country code in the picker before the phone number.
- Wait 60 seconds before tapping Resend code — carriers sometimes queue OTP messages.
- Confirm your phone can receive SMS from short codes (some carriers block by default).
- Try once more from a Wi-Fi network in case the cellular handoff is slow.
If it still doesn’t arrive after a few attempts, email us with the phone number you’re trying to sign up with and we’ll look at the server logs together.
How do I delete my account?
Open TaskBuzz → Profile tab → Delete account at the bottom. After a two-step confirmation (the second step asks you to type DELETE) your account, tasks, lists, comments, friendships, and push tokens are permanently removed within 30 days.
If you’ve lost access to the device or the phone number, email support@taskbuzz.org from any address and tell us the phone number you signed up with. We’ll verify ownership and delete the account.
Full details: Account deletion page.
I lost my phone — how do I sign in on a new device?
TaskBuzz accounts are tied to your phone number. If you have the same number on the new phone, just install the app and sign in — you’ll receive an OTP on the same number and your tasks, lists, and friends come back automatically.
If you switched to a new number, email us and we’ll help migrate your account.
How do I add a friend?
Go to the Friends tab → tap the + button. You can either pick from your contacts (we only look up phone numbers, never upload your contact list) or type the phone number directly. The other person gets a friend request they can accept or decline.
Once you’re friends you can assign tasks to each other, share lists, and send a Buzz.
What is a “Buzz” and how many can I send?
Buzz is a real-time nudge inspired by the Yahoo! Messenger button of the same name. Tap the Buzz button on any task assigned to a friend and their phone vibrates with a custom pattern and the app shakes on screen.
To keep things respectful Buzz is rate-limited to 2 per task per day. You can’t buzz someone who isn’t a friend, isn’t the assignee of the task, or whose task is already marked done.
How do comments work?
Every task has a built-in comment thread. Tap the bubble icon on a task row to open it. Anyone with access to the task — the task’s creator, its current assignee, the list’s owner, and (on shared lists) accepted members — can post.
Notifications go to everyone with access to the thread, minus the poster. A red dot on the bubble icon shows when there’s something you haven’t read.
You can edit your own comments (long-press → Edit). Deletes leave a small “X deleted a message” placeholder in the thread so the conversation gap stays legible.
Push notifications aren’t arriving
Most often this is a system setting:
- iOS: Settings → TaskBuzz → Notifications → ensure Allow Notifications is on.
- Android: Settings → Apps → TaskBuzz → Notifications → ensure the channel is enabled.
- Check that you’re online — offline devices receive notifications when they reconnect.
- If you recently signed out, sign in again so the app re-registers its push token.
I shared a list but my friend can’t see it
When you invite a friend who isn’t marked as trusted, they receive a pending invitation. They have to accept it from the Friends tab → pending invites before the list appears in their My Lists. Trusted friends get added automatically.
You can check whether an invitation is still pending by opening the list → menu → Manage members.
How do I report inappropriate content from another user?
If someone posts an offensive comment or task title in a shared list, email support@taskbuzz.org with a screenshot and the user’s display name. We act on every report within 24 hours.
If you’re the list owner, you can delete any comment in your lists directly — long-press the offending message and choose Delete.
You can also unfriend the user (Friends tab → their row → Unfriend), which removes them from any shared lists you own.
I can’t buzz someone
The Buzz button only appears when all of these are true:
- You’re friends with the task’s assignee.
- The task is assigned (not unassigned, not assigned to you).
- The task isn’t marked done.
- You haven’t already sent the daily limit of buzzes for that task.
Something else / I found a bug
We want to hear about it. Email support@taskbuzz.org with:
- What you were doing when it happened
- What you expected vs. what actually happened
- Your phone model and OS version
- The app version (Profile → scroll to the bottom)
- A screenshot or screen recording if you have one

Status & outages
If the app suddenly stops working for everyone you know, it’s probably a server-side issue. We don’t have a public status page yet — just email us and we’ll confirm if we’re aware.
